Some will find it very hard to believe that a service like makerspace development has anything in common with organized sports.
Nothing could be further from the truth from a service delivery standpoint. Both compete for the same demographics.
The popularity of traditional stick and ball sports have been on the decline for years. And video gaming is eating the lunch of traditional spectator sports.
A key indicator is the rise of video gaming stars. These are people who play video games while other people watch. They are right up there with YouTube stars when it comes to endorsements. They represent the kind of life styles that many in their generation envy.
The reason that we bring up video gaming stars is because they are the prerequisite for building a fan base. Common wisdom is that fans follow teams or institutions. However, a more accurate answer is that fans follow personalities. And that successful teams find personalities that mesh with the image that the team wants to portray.
The hard truth is that there are too many makerspace websites that don’t even show real people. More over, you can’t even find a way to contact a real person. Changing this reality is where we start if we want to expand the fan base for makerspace development.
