Today’s Question: What will incentives reporting mean for makerspace development?
When we talk about incentives, we are talking all the benefits that the community is willing to offer a prospective company to relocate.
For example, is the community offering to delay property taxes or is the community willing to pay for additional skills training for employees of new arrivals?
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) has picked up on the outrage that income inequality has engendered and come down on the side of more transparency. Now this may be a bad thing for the pro-incentives crowd but it’s great for supporters of makerspace development.
The problem for the pro-incentives crowd is that incentives aren’t a solution. They are a pathway to a solution. Makerspace Development is a real solution for helping lesser industrialized communities survive on their own terms.
