MD051: Don’t Park Vets in Empty Jobs

empty-jobIf you listen to pundits , you’d would think that employers are doing returning veterans a favor by giving them jobs, any job.

Empty jobs not only the ones that lead nowhere. They are the ones that are most at risk of going away because of an economic downturn or automation.

Currently, the average full time job only lasts between two and three years. This means that the average worker no matter their prior military status has to look for a new job every two to three years.

The only way off this marry-go-round for the average American is to build a micro-business. This only works if the local makerspace remains viable over an extended period of time, on the order of decades not just a few years.
